Mia Love wants everyone to recognize that
she's a black woman when it's beneficial to her

When it’s beneficial to her, newly elected congresswoman Mia Love (R-UT) wants everyone to recognize that she’s a “black, Republican, LDS, woman.”
During her victory speech, Love praised Utahans for voting a “black, Republican, LDS, woman into congress.” She told the cheering crowd, “Many of the naysayers out there said that Utah would never elect a black, Republican, [Mormon] woman in congress.
Not only did we do it, we were the first to do it.” However, a day after the election she chastised CNN’s John Berman and Michela Peirra for congratulating her on her historic win as the first “black, Republican, LDS, woman” to be voted into congress.
Berman and Peirra asked Love what she thinks the Republican Party should do in order to help minorities within the party to get elected to Congress.
Love, who often praises Republicans for being inclusive, responded that “this has nothing to do with race…It’s that race, gender, had nothing to do with it.”
Instead, Love said that she won because “Principles had everything to do with it, and Utah values had everything to do with it.
And so that’s the history that we made here.” Basically, Love is saying that her win was historical because the people who have a history of having the same principles and values voted for someone who also has a history of having the same principles and values as them.
Unfortunately for Love, her praising Utahans for proving “Many of the naysayers out there” wrong about the state’s chances of becoming the first in the history of this country to elect a “black, Republican, LDS, woman” is counter to her shared “principle” and “values” reasoning as why her win was historical.
